Description

The technology behind PIERALISI by SCAE disk screw presses is based on one or more screw conveyors with shafts that move through a housing consisting of alternating fixed and movable discs made of AISI 304 or 316L stainless steel.

The process is simple and efficient: after conditioning in the flocculation tank, the sludge enters the feed inlet and is transported by the spiral motion of the screw, being progressively dewatered and compacted until a high-quality solid residue is obtained.

A distinctive feature of these machines is the self-cleaning system: water separates through the space between the moving discs, whose relative movement ensures continuous self-cleaning that prevents clogging. This design requires significantly less wash water compared to other traditional technologies, contributing to more sustainable operation with reduced operating costs.

Maintenance is minimized thanks to the absence of continuous lubrication, the use of a single Teflon bushing instead of multiple bearings and the ability to remove the screw from the top by opening the housing. Furthermore, in the multi-screw configuration, it is possible to operate with a single screw undergoing maintenance without interrupting the process, ensuring operational continuity even in critical plants.

PIERALISI by SCAE disk screw presses are available in various power and capacity configurations to suit the specific requirements of the target plant. Upon request, the machines can be provided with all the equipment needed to complete the dewatering/thickening section, such as: single-screw electric pumps for sludge feeding and polyelectrolyte dosing, a polyelectrolyte solution preparation station and screw conveyors for transporting dewatered sludge.

Advantages

RELIABILITY

Reliability isn’t something that can be improvised: it is built on decades of hands-on experience and a solid industrial heritage.

In sludge treatment, where machines operate 24/7 in harsh environments (humidity, abrasion, corrosion), mechanical robustness is the decisive factor for durability and operational continuity.

PIERALISI by SCAE disk screw presses are designed precisely for this purpose:

  • superior structural robustness: materials with high resistance to corrosion and wear, selected to withstand the most severe conditions over the long term;
  • low rotation speed: the screw operates at low rotational speed, minimizing mechanical stress, component wear and the risk of breakage;
  • consistent performance over time: dewatering efficiency and dry solids yield remain stable year after year, without significant decline in performance.

When reliability bears the Pieralisi name - a world leader in solid-liquid separation - the continuity of the purchased system ceases to be a variable: it becomes a certainty. Fewer unexpected shutdowns, lower replacement costs and fewer operational concerns.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY

Drastically reducing energy consumption in sludge treatment is not just an ecological choice: it is a concrete and measurable economic advantage.

PIERALISI by SCAE disk screw presses are designed to operate with very low installed power, generally ranging from 0.55 kW to 7.5 kW depending on the model and required capacity.

This translates to:

  • significantly lower fixed energy costs compared to traditional technologies;
  • a faster return on investment thanks to lower energy requirements.

For both thickening and dewatering, a high-quality solid residue with optimal dryness is obtained, while keeping energy consumption to the absolute minimum.

A technology that combines high performance with a genuine “green power” approach, ideal for municipal, civil and industrial facilities aiming for operational efficiency, environmental sustainability and strict control of operating costs.

COMPACT SIZE

Expanding sludge treatment capacity without having to expand existing space has become a real necessity.

In plants with already saturated layouts or limited dedicated areas, PIERALISI by SCAE disk screw presses prove to be the most versatile and practical solution available on the market.

The integrated monoblock design concentrates everything needed into a minimal footprint:

  • extremely compact footprint, ideal for installations in crowded machine rooms or existing buildings;
  • complete system enclosed in a single package;
  • significantly smaller dimensions compared to centrifuges, traditional filter presses or filter belts for the same treated flow rate.

Installation is quick and non-invasive: plug-and-play in just a few business days, with minimal engineering work and no need for prolonged plant shutdowns.
Increasing dewatering or thickening capacity no longer requires new buildings or radical reorganizations: simply adopt a technology that is compact, high-performing and designed for the actual space constraints of today’s plants.

REMOTE CONTROL

With PIERALISI by SCAE disk screw presses, you can manage the system completely independently, from anywhere.

Designed to ensure operational continuity without the need for constant on-site intervention, they feature an advanced monitoring system that brings control directly to your smartphone or tablet.

You can:

  • monitor key process parameters and machine performance in real time;
  • receive immediate notifications and alerts in case of anomalies or deviations, allowing you to intervene before downtime occurs;
  • minimize downtime thanks to rapid diagnostics and targeted remote actions.

Productivity means always having the entire thickening or dewatering process under control, without having to be physically present at the plant.
A level of connectivity that makes sludge treatment smarter, more efficient and safer, in line with the demands of modern plant management

REDUCED MAINTENANCE

No more downtime for manual washing and periodic cleaning: with PIERALISI by SCAE disk screw presses, this problem simply no longer exists.
The integrated self-cleaning system is the real key feature: fixed and moving discs move relative to each other and continuously rub against one another during operation, automatically removing any residue and preventing sludge buildup on the filter surfaces.

This translates to:

  • virtually zero clogging
  • elimination of high-pressure cyclic washing
  • routine maintenance reduced to a minimum (no frequent manual cleaning or scheduled shutdowns for washing).

The system operates continuously 24/7, with reduced water consumption for washing, fewer labor hours dedicated to cleaning and lower overall operating costs. A technology that not only ensures efficient dewatering or thickening but also frees up time and resources for overall plant management.

APPLICATIONS

The system is successfully used in a variety of processes that require solid-liquid separation via flocculation:

  • municipal: municipal wastewater
  • food industry: beverages, dairy, slaughterhouses, and meat processing
  • process industries: chemical, pharmaceutical, textile, laundries, pulp and paper
  • energy and environment: biogas plants (agricultural feedstock/industrial waste) and livestock farms
  • special sectors: oil, hydrocarbons, leather tanning, mining, and metallurgy

Choosing a PIERALISI by SCAE machine today means you can count on a twofold guarantee: the strength of a global leader and the constant presence of a direct, responsive and dedicated technical partner.
